Algarve teen author launched her first book this year
Algarve teen author Ema Rawcliffe will be presenting her debut book at FNAC at Algarve Shopping next month.
Due to take place on Saturday, December 7 at 4pm, the event will see the 18-year-old author providing insight into her first steps as a writer and her experience publishing her first book, O Diário de K em São Francisco (The K Diary in São Francisco).
“It’s been amazing and a little overwhelming,” Ema told the Resident ahead of the event. “I never thought I’d be where I am today, it feels like a never-ending dream that keeps getting better every day.”
In fact, the experience has left Ema “more inspired than ever,” as she already has an idea for a new story and “dozens more needing publishing”.
“It’s a never-ending story and every page is a new tale full of wonder, fantasy, heartbreak and unbelievable joy. One could even call it the story of my life!,” Ema says.
O Diário de K em São Francisco was written in Portuguese and tells the story of 16-year-old Korra (K) Dillers, who moves to her mother’s hometown of San Francisco after her parents’ divorce.
“Moving to a new house is never easy, let alone to a new city, and then there’s the fact that K has asthma, a chronic respiratory disease,” reads the book’s synopsis.
“Alone in this new city, K befriends an unusual girl with blue hair named Marney and her group of friends who call themselves the CSC. With these new friends by her side, K finds herself living unexpected adventures with the CSC. But what will happen when chaos breaks out? Will K be able to adapt to this strange place she now calls home? Especially because K’s friends have more secrets than K herself…,” it adds.
With her first book, Ema is hoping to inspire others to read or even write themselves.
“You can learn so much from fairy tales or fiction,” she says. “Take it from me, they can teach you a new language, or about a new country… Book clubs or a stroll through the bookshop or the local library should be done more often than ever, with the internet so dominant in our world and society nowadays.”
Ema’s book can be purchased at the main book retailers, such as Bertrand, Wook, Cordel d’Prata (the publisher) and Fnac.
