The Elizabeth Line is down this morning, bringing travel chaos to the London rush hour as severe delays hit some of the capital’s major Tube lines.
The newest Tube line is part suspended today between Paddington and Abbey Wood following what Transport for London (TfL) said was a signalling systems fault. The closure, as with many that impact the London network, has caused a knock-on effect of extensive delays between Paddington, Heathrow and Reading.
The rest of the line is running as normal, according to TfL’s live service checker, and the organisation has allowed passengers to use their tickets on other lines. The Circle, District and Hammersmith and City lines are also backed up with severe delays this morning, with minor delays reported on the Metropolitan line.

Following the Elizabeth Line delays, TfL said: “No service between Paddington and Abbey Wood while we fix a signalling systems fault. Valid tickets will be accepted on London underground services. Severe delays between Paddington, Heathrow Airport and Reading. Good service on the rest of the line.”
TfL said the severe delays on the District line have hit between High Street Kensington and Edgware Road, but for a completely different reason to the Elizabeth Line. The service said the delays have sprung from a fire alert being activated at the station, while there is good service on the rest of the line.
TfL states: “No service between High Street Kensington and Edgware Road while we respond to a fire alert at High Street Kensington. Good service on the rest of the line Valid tickets are being accepted on London buses.” The same alert has caused led to a complete suspension on the Circle line.

The Hammersmith and City line’s delays appear to have plagued the entire line, and are due to “earlier power supply problems”, TfL reported, with valid tickets being accepted on London buses. The Metropolitan line’s delays have been put down to train cancellations, which has caused issues between Moor Park and Amersham.
While there is not yet a confirmation on when any of these issues might be resolved, every remaining Tube line is running as usual this morning, giving people ample choice for replacing routes on their morning commute.
