Did Ringo Starr just confirm Barry Keoghan will play him in the upcoming Beatles biopics?
It certainly seems that way, after the famed British drummer responded to a question about Keoghan’s reported casting in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
“I think it’s great,” Starr said when asked about Keoghan playing him. “I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons, and I hope not too many.”
According to a February press release from Sony, The Beatles − which consisted of Starr, Paul McCartney, John Lennon and George Harrison − will get the biopic treatment not once, but four times − with a movie told from each member’s perspective. Sam Mendes will direct all four films.
There hasn’t been an official cast announcement yet, but it has been rumored that Keoghan will play Starr. Other actors reportedly cast include Harris Dickinson (“Babygirl”), Paul Mescal (“Gladiator II”) and Charlie Rowe (“Gigi & Nate”).

Release plans for the films have yet to be announced, but outlets have speculated some or all of the movies might be released simultaneously in theaters.

“I’m honored to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies,” Mendes said in the press release.
“We intend this to be a uniquely thrilling, and epic cinematic experience: four films, told from four different perspectives which tell a single story about the most celebrated band of all time,” producer Pippa Harris added. “To have The Beatles’ and Apple Corps’ blessing to do this is an immense privilege. From our first meeting with Tom Rothman and Elizabeth Gabler, it was clear that they shared both our passion and ambition for this project, and we can’t think of a more perfect home than Sony Pictures.”
