Directed by Ranjeet S Marwa, Ballistics is a story of revenge and the repercussions such a desire has on the man who is harboring it. Beck believed that everything in his life would get back on track once he got revenge. He always felt a void within him, and he was of the opinion that only killing the man who gave him a lifetime of trauma would bring him peace. But when the moment came, Beck was shocked to find out that he was wrong all along. He realized that forgiveness has the kind of power that revenge lacks. But by that point, it was a bit too late, and Beck knew that he had gone past the point of no return. So, let’s find out what happened in Ballistics movie, and if its protagonist, Beck, was able to take revenge.
Spoiler Alert
What happened to Chrissy?
Butch “The Butcher” Hawke got out of the prison, and we got to know that a man named Beck was wanting to kill him. Butch had no idea that Beck was trying to find him for the longest time. In a flashback sequence, we got to know that, back in the day, before going to prison, Butch had murdered Chrissy, Beck’s sister, in cold blood. Chrissy was ordered to drop off a drug consignment that was worth 70 grand. That consignment never reached the buyer, and Butch believed that Chrissy had stolen from him. Firstly, he asked his men to rape her, and then he asked her why she had betrayed his trust. Chrissy apologized to Butch, but the latter was not the kind of man who forgave people. Butch knew that people obeyed his orders not because they respected him but because they were scared of him. He knew that he had to lead by setting a precedent. He told Chrissy that she was a good employee and that she brought him more money than anybody else. For a moment in Ballistics, it felt like Butch wouldn’t kill her, but then all of a sudden, he changed his mind and shot her dead.
In the present timeline, when Beck was talking to a junkie named Will, we got to know that Chrissy had had a closed casket funeral as her face wasn’t recognizable. At that point in time, Beck had become a drug addict, and after his sister died, he had no motivation to go back and meet his folks. After his sister’s demise, Beck went into a deep and dark hole of depression, and he lost everything in the process. He didn’t have a roof over his head, and each and every day was a struggle for survival. Beck knew that his sister had mingled with the wrong people, but she didn’t have a choice.
Why was Butcher on a killing spree?
It is said revenge is a dish best served cold, but it meant more than that for Beck. It gave his life a sense of purpose, and probably that was the only thing that got him up and ready each and every day and fend for his survival. I believe that if the thought of avenging his sister’s death had not been on his mind, then he would have taken his own life by consuming drugs.
Butch got out of prison after 3 years, and that’s when he realized that almost everybody had betrayed his trust. Butch realized that people wanted him to stay behind bars as they had every intention to take over his drug business and earn huge profits from it. So that’s why Butch went on a killing spree, and he started murdering each and every individual who had betrayed his trust. Detective Wilkes got paranoid when he got to know that Butch was out of the prison. He knew what he had done behind Butch’s back, and he was well aware of the kind of man Butch was. Wilkes went to meet Butch, and the latter, in no time, got proof of the fact that he had every intention of backstabbing him. Butch killed Wilkes in cold blood, but then he heard rumors about an anonymous man who was trying to kill him. Butch asked his right-hand man, Clive, to get him more information about this man. Butch knew that a sex worker named Candy had her ear on the streets, and she knew about everything that happened in the neighborhood. Butch specifically asked Clive to just take out information from Candy and not kill her. Butch knew the kind of man Clive was and how, at times, he couldn’t resist his impulse to spill blood. The inevitable happened, and after Clive got information from Candy, he killed her. Clive and Butch then start their quest to find Beck, not fully understanding what the man is capable of doing.
Was Beck able to kill the Butcher?
Beck first killed Benj, who worked closely with Clive, and then he went for Butch. Beck had nothing to lose, and he believed that until and unless he killed the man who took away his sister from him, he wouldn’t be able to spend his life in peace. So Beck entered Butch’s house, where he first had a faceoff with Clive. Beck was ex-military, and that was quite evident by the way he fought the man much younger than him. Beck was able to overpower Clive, and then he went after Butch. There came a moment in Ballistics’ ending, where it felt like Butch would be able to kill Beck. But once again, Beck defied the odds, and he shot Butch in the exact same manner the latter had killed his sister.
For the longest time, Beck felt that after taking revenge, he would feel at peace, but he realized that it was not so. After Beck killed Butch, the void inside him grew even bigger, and it felt like it would engulf him. I believe that Beck had nothing to look forward to anymore, and as stated earlier, taking revenge was the only fuel that was driving him ahead. Once that was over, he had no will to live another day. I believe Beck took his own life in the end, and he was done struggling each and every day. Beck knew that he only had himself to blame for everything that had happened to him. He had ruined his own life back in the day, and his sister’s death was the final nail in the coffin. Beck always talked to youngsters like Candy and Will and told them to get their lives back on track. He didn’t want them to make the same mistakes that he did, and probably, they would take their lesson from his life and not follow the same path that he did.
