OROVILLE, Calif. – The 2024 Butte Film Festival is set to run from December 6 to December 8 at the historic State Theatre in downtown Oroville.
The theme of this year’s Butte Film Festival features a unique Twilight Zone ambiance that organizers say will add an extra touch of mystery and nostalgia.
The Butte Film Festival will feature 63 selected films that will be screened over the duration of the event. These 63 films were narrowed down from the 135 submissions that were entered for the festival earlier this year.
Those attending the festival can expect films in the following eight categories:
- Animation
- Drama
- Documentary
- Action/Sci-Fi
- Comedy
- Experimental
- Horror
- Music Video
The lineup of guest speakers for the 2024 Butte Film Festival includes:
- Shaun Paul Piccinino, Chico local and director of A California Christmas, a #1 movie on Netflix in 2020. Piccinino will open the event, sharing insights into his successful career.
- Tyler Faires, Redding local and winner of Best Environmental Documentary at the Cannes World Film Festival for Acid Canal. Faires will lead a workshop on Sunday.
- Heather Atherton, renowned local film PR expert and organizer of the Oscar-qualifying Cordillera Film Festival, Reno’s largest film fest. Atherton wiill share her knowledge in a workshop on Sunday.

- Friday: Unveiling of Butte Film Commission & Opening Ceremony

5:30-6:30 PM – Unveiling of the Butte Film Commission, presented by Film Butte County
7:30-9:30 PM – Opening Ceremony, featuring Shaun Piccinino - Saturday: First Six Categories
10:00 AM – Doors open
10:30-11:30 AM – Comedy category screening
11:45-12:45 PM – Animation category screening
1:00-2:15 PM – Lunch break
2:30-3:30 PM – Drama category screening
3:45-4:45 PM – Documentary category screening
5:00-6:15 PM – Dinner break
6:30-7:30 PM – Experimental category screening
7:45-8:45 PM – Horror category screening
9:30 PM – Doors close - Sunday: Final Two Categories, Workshops & Award/Closing Ceremony

Tickets are available for the public and can be purchased at the Butte Film Festival website. Passes for the weekend cost $20, while a $50 VIP pass includes exclusive merchandise, snacks, drinks, and premium seating.
Students can access all of the events for just $10.
