Literature festivals are way more than just reading books. It’s got a bunch of other exciting events to participate in. Here’s all you need to know about it.
Over the last decade, Literature Festivals in India have elevated from housing local bookworms and bibliophiles to being a global celebration of literature and culture. Enthusiastic attendees from all around the globe are drawn to these events due to their love for books.
If you are among the ones who find their true selves while being lost in literature, here are five exciting literary festivals taking place in India from December 2024 to the first half of 2025.
BANGALORE LITERATURE FESTIVAL 2024
The 13th edition of the Bangalore Literature Festival is set to take place at Bengaluru’s The Lalit Ashok on December 14 and 15, 2024 from 9 AM to 8 PM.
The festival is aimed at celebrating literary diversity by featuring local, national and international writers. It will also include idea pitching events– LitMart and ScreenLit.
In the LitMart event, the finalists get a chance to pitch their book idea to a jury whereas in the ScreenLit event, aspiring screenwriters get a chance to pitch their scripts to the jury consisting of producers, directors, writers, agents, film reviewers, etc.
The festival has previously featured notable figures such as Gulzar, Chandrashekara Kambara, Chetan Bhagat, and Amish Tripathi, among others.

WAYANAD LITERATURE FESTIVAL 2024
The Wayanad Literature Festival (WLF) 2024 will be held from December 27–29. Established just two years ago, this literary festival has rapidly gained prominence.
Taking place in a rural setting, this event provides a unique experience for attendees and participants. The festival includes varied activities to engage in, including poetry readings, musical performances, tribal band performances, heritage walks, campfire readings, food festivals, and chess tournaments.
You can come across renowned writers, filmmakers and artists at the event. Notable speakers such as Arundhati Roy, John Keay, and Caroline Buckee have previously participated in the festival.
KERALA LITERARY FESTIVAL 2025
Asia’s largest literature festival, the Kerala Literature Festival (KLF), will hold its eighth edition at Kerala’s Kozhikode beach from January 23 to 26, 2025.
Kozhikode, India’s first UNESCO City of Literature, will bring together over 500 speakers from 15 countries and draw over 600,000 visitors to celebrate literature, art, and culture. France will be this year’s guest country, leading to the presence of a good number of French authors and speakers.
Talking about the event’s increasing popularity, Ravi Deecee, the KLF’s chief Facilitator, said, “The international reach of KLF reflects the festival’s commitment to fostering cross-cultural exchanges and showcasing the diversity of thought and creativity from around the world,” as reported by Outlook Traveller.

JAIPUR LITERATURE FESTIVAL 2025
The 2025 edition of the literary extravaganza will be held at Jaipur’s Hotel Clarks Amer between January 30- February 3. The 17th edition of the world’s biggest free literary event, the Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF), will be attracting a huge crowd.
You can explore literature, art, history, politics, and societal issues in multiple languages there. You can also meet bestselling authors, listen to great panellists, and participate in book reading sessions.
This vibrant celebration extends beyond literature, incorporating lively musical performances, innovative art installations, and a diverse street food bazaar, collectively crafting an engaging and festive atmosphere.
KALINGA LITERARY FESTIVAL 2025
The 11th Kalinga Literary Festival will take place from March 21–23, 2025 at the Mayfair Convention in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. It aims to celebrate the literary heritage of Orissa and to honour all kinds of writers, be it fiction, non-fiction, children’s books or poets.
The literary festival will bestow awards in 17 prestigious categories, including a new addition of the Odia Book Awards, to honour authors who have made significant contributions to Odia literature. Nominations for the awards can be submitted by December 15, 2024.
The festival will be an interactive one as it will include workshops, book exhibitions, live performances and also sessions on literature, art, cinema, politics, and societal challenges by writers. Last year, popular Indian author Durjoy Dutta was one of the esteemed speakers.
