When the skies are dreary and the chill sets in, there’s truly nothing better than cosying up at home, giving the evening out a miss for some snug relaxation.
And what better way to spend those long winter nights than by getting lost in the pages of an enthralling book?
Book lovers will undoubtedly agree that this pastime is something they often enjoy throughout the year. But for those who aren’t quite sure where to dive into the literary world due to its vast selection of works, starting can seem daunting.
But fear not – a TikTok book guru, having devoured almost 150 page-turners this year alone, has dropped her must-reads you should pick up ‘immediately’.

Lacey, known to her followers as LLD Library on TikTok, has impressively polished off 149 books so far in 2024. She frequently offers her followers a mix of reviews, top recommendations and inspiration for book clubs.
Earlier this year, she took to the platform to share her top five-star selections from the year, gushing: “I will tell everyone to read books forever.”
Here are the six titles Lacey insists you add to your list now.
The Teacher – Freida McFadden
Billed as a “chilling story of twisted secrets and long-awaited revenge”, this tale revolves around teacher Eve and student Addie embroiled in a school scandal.
Lacey praised the book as ‘mind blowing’, promising a couple of crazy twists and claiming you ‘won’t be able to put it down’. She added: “There’s no stopping you from finishing this book in one sitting, or staying up way past your bedtime to finish this book.”
While it might take a bit of effort to get into initially, once you start piecing everything together, you won’t be able to stop thinking about it.
The Idea of You – Robinne Lee
For those who love a bit of romance or spice, this is the book for you. Lacey confessed she was ‘absolutely infatuated’ with the male protagonist, adding: “The banter and overall sexiness of the book was just incredible.”
It explores the relationship between world-famous boyband member Hayes Campbell and Solene Marchand, an older woman with a child – and the undeniable chemistry and attraction that blossoms between them.
Earlier this year, it was adapted into a film featuring Anne Hathaway – so if you enjoyed the movie, it’s worth giving the book a read too.

When She Returned – Lucinda Berry
Horror/thriller enthusiasts will want to add this book to their reading lists, according to Lacey. She described: “This is a very very scary yet interesting look into the life of someone who gets sucked into a cult.
“This book had my heart pounding at the end.”
The story revolves around the sudden reappearance of a woman who vanished 11 years ago, causing chaos within her family, revealing dark secrets and the often devastating reality of family relationships.
Look Closer – David Ellis
If you’re a fan of the best-selling book The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides, then Look Closer is a must-read. Lacey described it as ‘The Silent Patient on steroids.’
She said: “This book had me absolutely fooled. It is a little bit long, but it won’t feel like that, you won’t be able to put it down.”
Billed as a ‘wickedly clever and fast-paced novel of greed, revenge, obsession,’ it delves into the secrets that unravel when an ordinary couple, Simon and Vicky, are thrust into the middle of a murder.
Lacey added: “Good luck going to bed after this.”
The Frozen River – Ariel Lawhon
A stunning portrayal of a real-life figure from late 1700s America, this book follows Martha Ballard and her challenging life as a midwife.
Lacey said: “This book does have that historical fiction element but also does have some true components to it.
“And it has a little bit of a murder mystery. The romance between our main character and her husband is just so much fun.”
The Women – Kristin Hannah
This is another historical fiction with a very strong female lead, perfect if you’re looking for a read that will leave you feeling empowered.
Lacey said: “This book is wartime, gory, it has moments where it’s very difficult to read some of the things in this book. But it gives you a glimpse into what life was like for the women of Vietnam, and also the men of Vietnam, the veterans in general.
“This book is, I think, my number one book of 2024 so far.”
