Basil Joseph is currently going through an excellent phase in his career, with back-to-back successful outings. The multi-faceted talent, who is currently focussing in his acting career, is teaming up with leading production designer Jothish Shankar, for the latter’s directorial debut, Ponman. The long-awaited film, touted to be a comedy drama, was earlier expected to get a December 2024 release. However, Ponman is now slated to be released in February 2025.

The highly anticipated project, which features actor-filmmaker Basil Joseph in the lead role, has been slated to hit the theatres in on February 6, 2024. The cast and crew members of the film recently took to their official social media handles and confirmed the reports, with a special post. The team also shared a new poster of Ponman, featuring Basil Joseph, along with Deepak Parambol, Deepak Parambol, Anand Manmadhan, and another actor. The title fond of the film suggests that the story has a ‘Gold’ connection.

As per the reports, Ponman is an official adaptation of the Nalanchu Cheruppakar, the 2020-released Malayalam novel penned by renowned writer GR Indugopan. The novelist himself has penned the film’s screenplay, along with Minnal Murali fame writer Justin Mathew. Jothish Shankar, the senior production designer who is best known for his work in films like Kumbalangi Nights and Nna Thaan Case Kodu, is making his directorial debut with the upcoming Basil Joseph starrer. More details on the film’s theme, and the leading man’s character are expected to be revealed, very soon.
Along with Basil Joseph, Deepak Parambol, and Anand Manmadhan, the highly anticipated project features Aavesham actor Sajin Gopu and Lijomol Jose, in the pivotal roles. Justin Varghese is composing the songs and the original score for the film. Sanu John Varghese is the director of photography. Nidhin Raj Arol handles the editing. Ponman is produced by Vinayaka Ajith, under the banner Ajith Vinayaka Films.
