WASHINGTON – Florida Republican Congressman-elect Mike Haridopolos gained a seat on the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee for the upcoming 119th Congress this week.
Haridopolos represents Florida’s 8th District – which includes NASA’s Kennedy Space Center and the Patrick Space Force Base.
“Our district is the heart of America’s space industry, and I am honored to serve on a committee that directly impacts its future,” Haridopolos said. “This is an opportunity to advocate for bold new horizons for America’s space program, strengthen public-private partnerships, and ensure that the Space Coast continues to drive innovation, job creation, and economic growth for Florida and the nation.”
The district also houses aerospace industry members like SpaceX and Blue Origin.
“America’s dominance in space is vital to our national security, economic growth, and technological leadership,” he said. “As America prepares to return to the moon and we set our eyes on Mars, the coming years will be a watershed moment for our spaceflight industry. I am committed to ensuring that NASA’s groundbreaking research and exploration efforts are strategically aligned with the objectives of the Space Force.”
Haridopolos vowed to use his position to sustain the “economic vitality” of the Space Coast in Florida.
“By strengthening the connection between our civilian and military space programs, we can solidify America’s leadership in this critical domain, protect our interests in an increasingly competitive space environment, and inspire the next generation of innovators and explorers,” the congressman-elect said.
Haridopolos was also appointed to the House Financial Services Committee.
