A LOCAL volunteering group celebrated the opening of its children’s Book Box earlier this week.
The Trans Pennine Trail (TPT) Conservation Volunteers group, who work between Penistone and Dunford Bridge, officially opened the box on Wednesday.
Children walking on the TPT can now borrow a book and take it home to enjoy.
Or they can bring their own books to swap and share, as well as just sitting down on nearby bench with their family.
The Book Box can be found on the Trans Pennine Trail halfway between the car park at Dunford Bridge and the popular Magic Wood at Hazlehead, which is currently decked out for Christmas.
TPTcv co-ordinator Kate Dobson said: “We’re delighted to be able to add this feature to the route.
“The distance from Dunford Bridge car park to the Magic Wood isn’t very far, but when you’re little it can feel a long way and the Book Box will provide an excellent excuse to stop and have a rest.
“Books have been donated by members of the public including local children, and Tesco Penistone, and are suitable for children up to the age of ten.
“Further donations are welcomed.

Kate has expressed her thanks to Penistone Men in Sheds, who constructed the Book Box, and the council’s public rights of way team, who installed the feature.
