Netflix subscribers rejoice as arguably the best superhero movie of the past 10 years is now available to stream.
Featuring an all-star cast, impeccable world-building and a gritty new take on one of the most iconic characters of all time, the film was a box office smash-hit and attracted a devoted following who are still desperate for a sequel.
Superhero fans may agree the Caped Crusader’s cinematic outings peaked with 2008’s The Dark Knight but, for many, his latest solo outing is a close second and others even believe it’s even better.
The Batman sees Twilight star Robert Pattinson stepping into the role of Bruce Wayne, a masked vigilante who must piece together a series of brutal crimes across Gotham City to put a stop to a scheming serial killer known as the Riddler (played by Paul Dano).
While it’s not quite a Christmas classic, this three-hour crime epic is the perfect antidote to the overload of festive cheer and is guaranteed to keep the parents hooked once the kids have gone to bed but you’re still too full to move from the sofa.
Helmed by Cloverfield and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves, the film also stars Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell.
Den of Geek called it “One of the Best Superhero Movies Ever Made” in their review, claiming it “stands apart from previous versions of the character”.
They added: “After a superhero film this extraordinarily satisfying and this determined to have something new to say about Bruce Wayne—and our own world by extension—the anticipation for what comes next will be immense.”
And Empire’s rave review said: “Matt Reeves’ arrival in the Bat-verse is a gripping, beautifully shot, neo-noir take on an age-old character. Though not a totally radical refit of the Nolan/Snyder era, it establishes a Gotham City we would keenly want a return visit to.”
One Letterboxd user gushed: “There’s a lot of evidence here to suggest that this might very well be the best batman movie ever made (the only exception being the lego batman movie ofc).”

The film also proved successful enough to warrant a spin-off, The Penguin on HBO and Sky, which features Colin Farrell reprising his transformative role as one of Batman’s most enduring adversaries.
