In the Peruvian capital of Lima, at the Santa Isabel clinic, the world’s first child was born, conceived using the technology of maturing an egg outside a woman’s body. Information about this was confirmed by the American biotechnology company Gameto through Business Wire, writes pravilamag.ru.
A unique conception became possible thanks to the innovative Fertilo technique – a modified version of in vitro fertilization (IVF). The peculiarity of the method is the use of laboratory-grown ovarian support cells obtained from stem cells to ensure the maturation of the egg outside the body. The medical community calls this achievement a turning point in the development of reproductive technologies.
The main advantage of the Fertilo method, according to Gameto specialists, is the absence of the need to undergo hormonal stimulation, which usually precedes classic IVF for 10-14 days. The technology is currently undergoing clinical trials in the United States, and has already received official approval in a number of countries, including Peru, Australia, Paraguay, Argentina, Mexico and Japan.
