Vice President Kamala Harris presided over a joint session of Congress on Jan. 6, overseeing the Electoral College vote count that confirmed her 2024 loss to Donald Trump — a stark contrast to the chaos that upended the process four years ago.
This time there were no protests and no objections from members of Congress as Trump’s 312-226 Electoral College victory was certified.
Here’s how South Carolina’s federal delegation weighed in on the peaceful transfer of presidential power:
“Proud to have certified the 2024 Presidential election today. The greatest political comeback in history is complete.”
“I’m ready to hit the ground running and help enact President Trump’s agenda on Day One. Let’s go!”
— U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.
“Congratulations to President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect Vance! I look forward to working with them to restore safety and prosperity for the American people.”
— U.S Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C.
“I would march through the snow, I would crawl over broken glass and I would walk on hot coals to ensure that we certify Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States of America today. Nothing will stop us.”
— U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace, R-Charleston
“It was my honor to certify the election results today and confirm (Trump) as the next President, elected in a landslide. Let’s Make America Great Again!”
— U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, R-Lexington
“It’s a snowy day on Capitol Hill, but that won’t slow down our work. Today, Congress will meet and I will vote to certify President Trump’s historic election victory paving the way for the January 20th inauguration. We begin a new day in Washington with energy, a clear vision, and strong leadership.”
— U.S. Rep. Sheri Biggs, R-Anderson
“Looking forward to getting to work with President Trump and Vice President Vance on the America First Agenda.”
— U.S. Rep. William Timmons, R-Greenville
“Today is a GREAT DAY for America!!! Today we will certify the election of President Trump!”
— U.S. Rep. Ralph Norman, R-Rock Hill
“January 6, 2021 will always be remembered as a day of dishonor and disgrace. Protecting the integrity of our democracy is paramount.”
“Today, Congress will do its constitutional duty once again to certify the election results — a great contrast from Republicans who sought to deny the election 4 years ago.”
— U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn, D-Columbia
“It’s time to Make America Great Again and certify President Donald J. Trump as America’s 47th President.”
