RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Staple and Spice Market in Downtown Rapid City recently celebrated five years under their new ownership.
Although the owners are new, Staple and Spice Market has been around for nearly 100 years.
“From my understanding is there used to be a corner market here from way back even in 1890, I think it was called Getchell’s,” Tammy Yanders, Staple and Spice Market owner, said.
From there, The Art Rose Professional building was built, and the Rose Marketeria found its home on the corner of St. Joseph Street and Mt. Rushmore Road.
“Then it started to become Black Hills Staple and Spice, and then Staple and Spice Market, and it just transformed,” Yanders continued.
Tammy and her husband, Wayne Yanders, are the fifth people to own the business.
“I think with my background in nursing and then the health coaching it was just a perfect fit to purchase a health food store,” Yanders said.
At Staple and Spice Market, you can find more health-focused products, specialty items for dietary restrictions and fresh produce baskets weekly.
“We have a lot of things here that offer that natural and healthy food approach,” Yanders said.
You can also find an extensive spice wall array.
“You can shop herbs, we have berries, we have flowers, we have spices of all kinds. They come from all over the world. We have a few companies that we purchase from,” Yanders said.
If you’re unsure about what spices or herbs to purchase, Staple and Spice Market has staff who are knowledgeable about wellness and can make recommendations.
“We’ve kind of developed a family with not only my staff but the customers that come in here,” Yanders said.
