Fans are just learning that one of Cillian Murphy’s sons made a quick cameo in a 2007 movie, and the reactions are priceless.
The Oscar winner has two sons with wife Yvonne McGuinness: Malachy, born in 2005, and Aran, born in 2007. The latter is following in his father’s footsteps after recently signing with a top lawyer and acting agency.
But Malacy actually already got his start in show biz, even if it was brief. He played Murphy’s baby in the 2007 romcom Watching The Detectives.
Murphy plays a video store owner named Neil, who is obsessed with film noir and immature pranks. His girlfriend Heater, played by Heather Burns, tells him to grow up and stop living vicariously through the movies.
That’s when he meets Violet, portrayed by Lucy Liu, a modern day femme fatale who leads him down a roam of petty crime. Neil gets in a little over his head, wondering if the exciting film life is actually what he wants.

One scene from the film shows Violet and Neil meeting a couple in the park who has a baby. Violet asks to hold the baby, then pretends to drop him, catching him at the last second.
Everyone is shocked by her prank, including Neil, who has to laugh it off and pretend everything is okay. Fans recently learned that the baby is Murphy’s real son Malachy.
Youtube account @TheFilmyFlogs posted the scene saying: “The fact that the baby is Cillian Murphy’s ACTUAL son makes his reaction even more real.”

In the comments, people agreed that he was probably rethinking his decision to let Malachy take part during the filming of that scene.
One user wrote: “Cillian was questioning the decision to have his child be a part of this.”
Another said: “And in that moment he decided his son will never ‘work’ again.”
A third pointed out a sweet moment between the father and son. “Watch the baby’s face, he’s looking straight at his Dad, probably wondering when he’s going to reach out to him. Love this movie!”
