SOUTH BERLINE, N.Y. (WBNG) — Thirteen women-owned businesses opened shop in the former South New Berlin School on Saturday afternoon to show the community what they offer. The Tri-County chapter of New York State Women Inc. hosted the event.
“Our focus today was to showcase women-owned businesses,” said the chapter’s Vice President Patti Pollock. “They can come set up a table, we can have the public come through, buy some of their stuff, and learn about what woman-owned businesses are local here to them that are available to them.”
In addition to engaging with the public, the space allows business owners to mingle and learn from each other.
“It’s a great networking opportunity, and the greatest thing is that all the small business owners that are here are all able to talk to each other and see how they can benefit from each other,“ said Karri Beckwith, owner of Bull Thistle Bridal.”
Wellness Advocate Jennifer Jones told 12 News that shopping locally and small can benefit the community greatly.
“We always say that you’re supporting on both ends of the bottle,” said Jones. “You’re supporting me and my family, you’re supporting the farmers that are growing all of these wonderful oils, and you’re supporting yourself and your families as well.”
The Tri-County chapter told 12 News they hope to hold the event again in the spring with a larger turnout.
