Interestingly, Shashi Kapoor was initially the first choice for this movie, but he declined the offer due to his unwillingness to work with Mumtaz, who at that time was starring in several B-grade stunt films. Consequently, the film was offered to Rajesh Khanna, who went on to make history at the box office with the movie.
Sachaa Jhutha became a massive hit and was the second-highest-grossing film of 1970. The film’s story was well-loved by audiences, and Khanna’s performance won the hearts of many. The film also earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
Between 1969 and 1971, Rajesh Khanna achieved a record by delivering 17 consecutive hit films, and Sachaa Jhutha was one of them. The movie was originally titled Dil Sachaa Chehra Jhutha, but it was later changed to Sachaa Jhutha.
Directed by Manmohan Desai, the film’s story was penned by his wife, Jivanprabha Desai. This collaboration proved to be a significant turning point in Rajesh Khanna’s illustrious career.
