MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) — If it doesn’t involve snow, most outdoor activities come to a halt in the cold months.
Val’s Cyclery in Minot sees a change in sales this time of year.
Carson Schell is a third-generation manager of the bike shop. He says the bike industry as a whole has seen a severe decline over the past few years.
Fat tire bikes are primarily used in the winter and Schell says the bike shortage for them was really hard on sales, but now they have slowly picked back up.
Schell says the shop also offers an assortment of bikes, as well as maintenance services, exercise equipment and more.
He says they have a large part in the winter sharpening business too, with things like ice skates and auger blades.
Schell says January is a unique time for their business.
“Come early January you get a lot of folks coming in because selections are highest and excited for the new year riding,” said Schell.
Val’s Cyclery is located at 222 E Central Avenue in Minot.
