Meghan Markle‘s various business endeavors are frequently the subject of highly-publicized speculation but one of the lesser known rumors, until now, is about a book pitch her team allegedly discussed with publishers.
The alleged pitch is one of several revelations in Vanity Fair’s February cover story which unpacks the ups and downs of Prince Harry and Markle’s post-royal life five years after their exit.
Per Vanity Fair, a rumor began to circulate several years ago in the book world that Markle’s team had a conversation with a publishing house to enquire about interest in a book, written by Markle, about divorce — specifically her divorce from Prince Harry, if one was ever to happen.
The magazine specifically notes that, per the rumor, the book pitch was not just a general advice book about divorce or even one about Markle’s divorce from her first husband, producer Trevor Engelson, to whom the former actress was married from 2011 to 2014.
Essentially, Vanity Fair‘s sources claim Markle’s team was simply trying to gauge interest just in case the Duke and Duchess of Sussex did ever end up divorcing, not that there are any signs they were planning to!
Another source, however, believes the rumor may have gotten muddled. “If that’s true to any degree, she would have been approached and not vice versa,” the source says. Needless to say, no formal book offer was ever made, Vanity Fair says, and no manuscript was produced about a non-existent divorce.
Markle and Harry declined to be interviewed for the Vanity Fair cover story.
Markle and Harry did find themselves at the center of divorce rumors late last year after a series of solo outings. However, Harry was quick to shut down the speculation while speaking at The New York Times 2024 DealBook conference in New York City on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
“Apparently we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times,” Harry said, pushing back against rumors spread about the couple. “We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So, it’s just like, what?”
“It’s hard to keep up with, but that’s why you just sort of ignore it,” Harry added of these rumors. “Their hopes are just built and built, and it’s like, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,’ and then it doesn’t happen. So, I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do.”
