Fans of iconic ’80s films were buzzing after a rare sighting of one of the era’s beloved stars in Los Angeles recently.
The 65-year-old actress, who made her big-screen debut alongside Tom Cruise in Cocktail (1988), turned heads while running errands in a simple yet chic black puffer jacket and matching leggings.
It was a far cry from the sultry, unforgettable look she wore while romancing Patrick Swayze in Road House (1989), or the gritty portrayal of a drug addict in Drugstore Cowboy that same year, a role that earned her an Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead.
Shortly after that win, the stunning actress turned down the lead role of Catherine Tramell in Basic Instinct (1992)—a part that Sharon Stone would go on to make legendary.
Once known for her long, flowing blonde locks, the actress now sports a striking red-tinged mane, showing that time has only enhanced her natural beauty.
Can you guess who this timeless star is?
If you guessed Kelly Lynch, you’re right!
Lynch was born on January 31, 1959, in Golden Valley, Minnesota, and grew up in a middle-class family.
From an early age, Lynch developed a passion for the arts, particularly dance and theater.
She attended the University of Minnesota, where she studied fine arts, before moving to New York City to pursue acting.
Her early career saw her working in modeling and commercials before she made her breakthrough with Cocktail.
‘It was one of those parts that models get because my audition was [wearing] various bikinis,’ the actress said to People in 2017.
‘To do your first two films with Patrick Swayze and Tom Cruise, who are both — were, in Patrick’s case — really amazing sweet and kind, guys, I loved working with both of them,’ she added.
‘They were really, really fun.’
She has often called her role in Drugstore Cowboy, directed by Gus Van Sant, her favorite performance.
‘Really complicated characters where the humor is dark — that’s when I’m in heaven,’ she explained.
As for passing on Basic Instinct, she said, ‘As interesting and titillating as I thought that movie was, with a kid you just make different decisions.’
The blonde beauty – who gave birth to her daughter Shane in 1985 – ultimately chose parenthood over the racy role.
‘But I don’t regret a bit of that.’
