Children’s Reading Room (CRR) has opened the Book Den to get more books in the hands of children.
The project was launched by CRR in partnership with the Guelph Community Health Centre. The Book Den is located at 20 Shelldale Cres.
CRR aims to provide an inclusive space for children to learn literacy skills. Children can pick up books for free and take the books home with no returns needed. It opened in 2022 at All Saints Lutheran Anglican Church at 210 Silvercreek Pkwy.
CRR has distributed 24,929 books since it started.
The vestibule near the Guelph CHC medical clinic was previously a storage area and now is a reading nook with free books.
“This small satellite project aims to spread the love of reading to those with limited access to books and community literacy programs,” said in a press release.
Setting up a space in the Onward Willow neighbourhood extends the reach of CRR and is designed to help enable literacy by cutting out barriers like cost, membership, and book returns.
The Book Den is looking for volunteers to restock the shelves and help keep the space engaging. For more information visit the website or reach out to CRR directly.
