Meghan Markle’s team allegedly pitched a book about her life “post-divorce” from Prince Harry, despite the couple remaining together.
The Duchess of Sussex’s staff reportedly held discussions with an unnamed publisher to assess interest, according to an insider who spoke to Vanity Fair to reveal the shocking details over the weekend.
The timeline of these alleged talks was not revealed. The source reportedly reiterated that the proposed book was intended to cover the aftermath of a potential split from Harry, not Markle’s first husband, Trevor Engelson.
Meghan divorced her first husband Trevor in 2014. Before becoming royalty, the ex-Suits actress married the film producer in Jamaica in 2011 after a seven-year relationship.
Their intimate ceremony was a far cry from the 600-strong guest list at her second wedding. Thomas Markle, Meghan’s father, later alleged that the couple had provided their Jamaican wedding guests with bags of marijuana with a note from the newlyweds, despite the substance being illegal.

It wasn’t presented as a general commentary on divorce proceedings, the source added. The insider also reportedly highlighted that the book meeting didn’t imply that the Sussexes were on the brink of divorce, but was designed to determine if the publisher would be hypothetically interested should a divorce occur.
A second source didn’t deny that the conversation took place, but instead noted, “If that’s true to any degree, [Markle] would have been approached and not vice versa.”

Vanity Fair reported that the publisher never made an offer and no manuscript was produced because there was no divorce to write about.
It has been previously reported that the Sussexes have a four-book deal with Penguin Random House. To date, Markle has only released a children’s book. Page Six attempted to contact representatives for Markle and Harry for a response.
