Two guys, best friends, and they both like the same girl. Sounds like a recipe for trouble, right? But what about the girl, June? Well, she’s confused, as all teenagers are. She is attracted to the toxic one, James, but doesn’t want to break the heart of the nice guy, Will. So what did she do? Okay, she chose the toxic guy anyway because he has nice abs. Yeah, I know; the bar’s pretty low these days. To be honest, I wasn’t surprised when I found out that Love Me, Love Me is based on a Wattpad novel, because why not? Each and every scene in this film screams teenage fantasy, which is not a bad thing, unless it’s written badly. However, the nature of teenage fantasies is none of my business, because I am here to talk about the ending of the film, so without wasting any moment, allow me to jump straight into it.
Spoiler Alert
Austin Will Likely Get Arrested
A brief conversation between June and James’ father, Jordan, pointed out that James’ mother had a breakdown over a year ago, and she was currently in rehab. James further added that they hadn’t been together for years, and she was married to someone else. As it turned out, this someone was none other than James’ MMA trainer, Austin. In short, Austin was James’ stepfather. Throughout the movie, Austin had been giving James steroids to turn him into a money-making machine fueled by rage. Austin would place massive bets on James and often made sure that he won the match so Austin could fill his pockets. It could be theorized here that before Austin met James, he might have exploited his mother the same way. We know that Jordan was a rich guy, so it could be possible that Austin manipulated James’ mother and turned her into an addict to exploit her for money. And when Jordan found out about it, he broke all ties with James’ mother and left her to fend for herself, following which James started hating his father. Yes, this explains James’ frustration and anger towards Jordan, and the reason why he shook hands with the man his father hated the most, that is, Austin.
In the present day, when James met June, she convinced him to not take performance enhancing drugs, as she had lost her brother to such an addiction. At first, James, being a spoiled brat and a narcissist, told June to mind her own business, but when he found out that Austin had been threatening June to stay out of his life, James rebelled against his stepfather, as he didn’t want anyone to control his life. After this point, James stopped taking steroids, which made Austin worry that James could snitch on him in the near future, which was why he devised a plan to get rid of James completely. He knew that James and his childhood best friend, Will, had been fighting over a pretty girl, and therefore decided to use that to his benefit. He gave Will a chance to exact his revenge on James for stealing his girl. For the next match, Austin set up Will against James and made sure that the fight wouldn’t stop until Will had killed James in the ring. But thankfully, June saved the day by pressing the fire alarm button in the club.
By this point, Austin had exposed himself completely. He knew that James would definitely go to the police and tell him about the dope, which was why Austin abducted James from the club. His plan was to get rid of him so no one would ever hear from James again, but once again, June came to James’ aid and saved his life. Austin’s car crashed and flipped, and even though he and his henchman managed to escape, I guess James would definitely file a report against his stepfather to make sure he rots in prison for the rest of his life. I think this is going to help James return to good terms with Jordan as well. He’ll surely understand that his father was never at fault, and he only separated the kids from their mother for their own protection. But with Austin out of their lives, who knows? Jordan may bring his ex-wife back from rehab so she can rebuild her relationship with her kids.
June and James End Up Together
Okay, so June had been keeping a safe distance from James because he was too arrogant and narcissistic. James, on the other hand, was of the opinion that June was trying to steal his best friend, Will, from him. Additionally, Will was in a relationship with a girl named Ari, and things didn’t work out between them, which took a toll on Will’s mental health, and James didn’t want Will to get hurt again, which was why he was trying his best to keep June away from him. However, in doing so, James himself developed a fondness for June, because of which things got a bit awkward and complicated between them. They wanted each other, but they didn’t want Will to get hurt. But then came the rumors. June’s friend, Amelia, had secretly recorded June and James, and just for fun, she edited a video about their romance, which she sent to the whole college. And when Will saw this video, well, he got hurt, obviously. Will got really mad at James and June, and didn’t want to talk to them again, but on the bright side, James and June didn’t have to pretend anymore. However, the moment they decided to embrace each other, Amelia sent the footage to June’s mother, April, to make her life more complicated than it already was. So how did it end for these two lovebirds?
After Will found out how Austin had been exploiting the boys for his benefit, Will came running to help out his best friend and saved his life. The ending of Love Me, Love Me suggested that Will forgave James and June for hiding things from him and had finally come to terms with their relationship. But what about their parents? I think when June and James will tell their parents who circulated that video and the reason why, they would most likely forgive their kids and see their relationship in a different light. I am not sure about June’s mother, but Jordan seemed to be a pretty chill guy. Also Jordan is April’s boss, so if he is okay with James and June’s relationship, I don’t think April will have any issues either. With all that said, I think we can be sure of the fact that James and June will be going a pretty long way together.
