Guy Ritchie‘s criminally underrated war drama The Covenant is about to lose its streaming home. The film will be departing Netflix in early March.
Per What’s on Netflix, The Covenant will be leaving Netflix on March 5, 2026, mere months after making its arrival on the streaming platform. The film, which saw Ritchie serving as producer, director and co-writer, stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Dar Salim. It tells the gripping story of John Kinley, a U.S. Army Green Beret Master Sergeant who survives a terrifying Taliban ambush, chronicling his subsequent journey to rescue Ahmed, his Afghan interpreter who saved his life.
Originally released in 2023, The Covenant has become one of Ritchie’s most underrated films, despite earning near universal critical acclaim. It is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with an 82% approval rating from 119 critics’ reviews, and audiences have loved the film even more. From more than 1,000 verified user ratings on the site, it maintains an impressive 98% score, with audiences frequently praising it for both its action, performances, and “a story that honors wartime sacrifices.”
In addition to Gyllenhaal and Salim, The Covenant‘s supporting cast includes Emily Beecham (The Coen Brothers‘ Hail, Caesar!), Sean Sagar (NCIS: Sydney), Jason Wong (Wrath of Man), and Jonathan Lee Miller (Trainspotting) among others. The film was released by MGM in the U.S., with Amazon Prime Video handling the international release. It remains to be seen at this time where the film will head next when it comes to streaming distributors.
At the box office, The Covenant was released alongside Evil Dead Rise, Chevalier and Beau is Afraid. Stiff competition from other films kept it from being a financial success, and the film grossed only $21.9 million against its $55 million budget. In its opening weekend, it finished third behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Evil Dead Rise.
The Covenant isn’t Ritchie’s only film that will be departing Netflix at the end of the month. The filmmaker’s 2000 crime comedy Snatch, starring Jason Statham, Brad Pitt and Alan Ford, will be departing on March 1.
Ritchie Already Has 2 Star-Studded Films Lined Up For 2026
While The Covenant may be preparing to depart from Netflix, Ritchie fans still have much to look forward to throughout 2026. The English filmmaker currently has two projects in post-production: an action thriller titled In the Grey and a black comedy called Wife & Dog. The first to hit theaters will be In The Grey this April, with Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal starring as two extraction specialists helping a negotiator (Eiza Gonzalez) make an escape.
Wife & Dog will follow in October, and it is set to star Benedict Cumberbatch, Rosamund Pike, and Anthony Hopkins. Plot details about the film remain under wraps for now, but filming took place for the project in February 2025 in the United Kingdom. A theatrical release is currently planned for Oct. 23 by Black Bear Pictures, which produced Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare in 2024.
Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant will leave Netflix on March 5.
