The case against the man accused of stabbing of killing scientist, Dr Dorcas “Didi” Lekganyane, has been postponed.
FAMILY of killed scientist to wait a month before returning to court.
The matter against murder accused Cecil Kekana has been postponed to November as the state is not ready to proceed.
Kekana briefly appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates Court on Friday 20 September.
He is accused of stabbing his wife, scientist Dorcas “Didi” Lekganyane (32) to death in their Joburg home in July.
Reacting to the postponement, Didi’s uncle Robert Lekganyane said they expected this delay.
“We have been in constant engagement with the prosecutor and investigating officer during the week to try and understand where the state is at in terms of its readiness in the case,” said Robert.
“We got the sense they were not ready to proceed as they were waiting for DNA reports.”

Asked if the postponement spells disappointment for the family, Robert said they remain hopeful.
“We know how crucial this information is to the state, therefore we understand. We know there is a backlog in DNA cases. I believe the state will be able to fast track the process,” he said.
Daily Sun previously reported that the acclaimed scientist from Ga-Mathapo in Limpopo was found dead in Bramley, Joburg, with multiple stab wounds.
It was alleged the suspect took pills in an apparent suicide attempt after stabbing Didi to death.
At the time, Gauteng police spokesman, Colonel Noxolo Kweza confirmed that Kekana was arrested for the murder.
