Danville Area Community College Professor Wendy Brown invites the DACC community to a fun-filled day of family activities and science at the Mouth of Jordan Nature Reserve in Oakwood, on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 1-3 p.m.
Sponsored by the Land Conservation Foundation and DACC students, this event offers hands-on activities for kids, including creating nature sun prints, designing and building their own aquascopes, going on a treasure hunt, and crafting nature journals (while supplies last).
This isn’t the first time Dr. Brown has hosted an activity at the Mouth of Jordan. Last year, DACC Biology 100 (Life Science) and Biology 105 (Environmental Biology) students, along with Dr. Brown and Professor Stephanie Loveless, participated in a Freshwater Mussel Survey at the reserve. Leading the survey were Fran Harty from the Land Conservation Foundation and Bob Szafoni from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
Tips for the Event:
Wear shoes and clothes that can get wet.
Bring drinking water, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
Note: There are no facilities at the site.
This event is weather-dependent and will be rescheduled if it rains. For directions, enter “Mouth of Jordan” into Google Maps.
