Hyderabad: Scientists from National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) and National Atmospheric Research Laboratory(NARL) believe that the unusual phenomenon that led to widespread destruction in 332 acres in the Tadvai – Eturnagaram forest areas, with over 50,000 of trees being uprooted or destroyed, could be due to strong wind blowing in the area and heavy rainfall that fell due to the concentration of strong clouds in one area.
A workshop was organized on environmental disaster in Tadvai forest area of Eturnagaram wildlife sanctuary in Mulugu district here on Tuesday, in which scientists and experts from NRSC, NARL, NGRI, IMD , NIT Warangal, Kakatiya University professors, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Chief Wildlife Warden, forest officers and, retired officers from Forest Department shared their views on the incident.
The NRSC and NARL scientists said due to the simultaneous occurrence of a cyclone in two areas in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, the wind blew at a speed of 130-140 kilometers per hour and the disaster might have happened due to the strong wind blowing in that area. It was informed that the roots of the tree go horizontally instead of deep in the ground due to the rapid growth of the trees during August month. The incident happened on August 31.
PCCF R M Dobriyal asked officials to protect the place where the incident happened from the local people, cattle and fire, so that the plant species that grow in the area could be protected. He directed the officials to pay special attention to take measures to prevent weeds in the area where the trees had fallen so that the trees can grow quickly.
