For folks who have yards to tend, it’s welcome news that a University of Arkansas turf scientist and colleagues at other universities are trying to develop Bermuda grass that will stay greener longer.
The work focuses on golf courses, where grass gets more attention than at Snoop Dogg’s house (maybe that’s a different kind). But it might have ramifications for the weekend warriors dedicated to maintaining their yards, too.
Bermuda grass, a staple of Arkansas lawns, goes dormant in winter months and can even even die off. It thrives in hot, hot summers and loses its color headed into the fall or early winter. Replanting can be a costly and time-consuming effort. So if the scientist can make Bermuda behave a little better, it could have serious implications for grass-intense uses.
