A forensics scientist at the Indiana State Police DNA laboratory was the lone witness Monday morning as testimony resumed in the double murder trial of Delphi resident Richard Allen.
During questioning by the prosecution, Stacy Bozinovski, who works out of Indianapolis, said she was given several clothing items and shoes to run DNA analysis on. The shoes came both from Deer Creek and the crime scene.
She also took swabs of some trees in the crime scene area and branches that were on the girls’ bodies. She confirmed none of those items showed DNA from Allen.
Bozinovski said some of those items did show male DNA, but none of them were sufficient to create a DNA profile. Any DNA that was found at the scene or on items in the creek were either from Libby German or Abby Williams or both, or insufficient.
Bozinovski said they also tried to do DNA analysis on the cartridge that was found at the scene, but it was too small to provide sufficient DNA evidence.
There was also numerous hair found either on the clothing or on the bodies of the girls, which was found to be inconclusive or ended up being a DNA profile matching the girls.
Bozinovski had yet to be cross examined when Judge Frances Gull called for recess.
The trial was off on Sunday. On Saturday morning, the jury heard a 2022 police interview with Allen. Monday was the ninth day of the jury hearing testimony.
It was Feb. 14, 2017, when the bodies of German and Williams were found near the Monon High Bridge area in rural Carroll County.
In November 2022, Allen was arrested and charged with two counts of murder and two counts of felony murder for his alleged connection to the case.
