The appliance of science was very much to the fore in Kerry in recent days as the county became engrossed in National Science Week, sponsored by Science Foundation Ireland, which involved a range of engaging outreach events.

Munster Technological University hosted exciting line-up of events for the festival which is now in its ninth year.
Science Week is a national celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), featuring hundreds of events for all ages. This year’s theme, Regeneration, invited people to reimagine how to engage with the world and strengthen the collective future.
“I’m delighted to see that many of the events in this year’s Science Week focused on sustainability and equality, diversity and inclusion,” said MTU President, Professor Maggie Cusack.
“MTU is already a leader in science education and research in the south west and this will be enhanced with the opening of our state-of-the-art STEM building, An Cuan, on Kerry North campus next summer.”
Festival highlights included a beginner’s guide to climate change and biodiversity during which participants discovered how climate change impacts on daily life and how small steps can make a big difference.
There was an engaging day for families with more than 30 events to explore STEM through hands-on activities, demonstrations and exhibits designed to spark curiosity and inspire future innovators.
