Opportunities for advancing drug discovery using protein science were explored at a conference held at Hinxton Hall, on the Wellcome Genome Campus.
Held on Monday and Tuesday (18-19 November), it was jointly hosted by the European Laboratory Research & Innovation Group (ELRIG) UK and The Protein Society.
The conference, Protein Sciences in Drug Discovery, brought together scientists to discuss high-throughput methods for protein expression, approaches for generation of antigens for antibody and vaccine discovery, techniques to interrogate protein quality, and the application of cryo-EM for druggability, plus sequence-based predictive methods.
Sanj Kumar, CEO of the not-for-profit ELRIG UK, said: “We are delighted by the success of today’s Protein Sciences in Drug Discovery meeting as we’ve brought together the academic and industrial life science communities with the best quality science and speakers from across the world. We thank all our partners, sponsors and The Protein Society for working with us.”
Elizabeth Meiering, president of The Protein Society and University of Cambridge alumna, said: “This first partnership of our two societies showcased world-class science, fundamental and applied, spanning academia and industry.
“The energy in the meeting was tremendous, as early career and senior scientists shared knowledge and expertise. This forum offers exciting opportunities and synergy in advancing protein and drug-based discoveries across many disciplines for a myriad of invaluable health and societal benefits.”
