Udupi, Nov 28: Poornaprajna College (PPC), Udupi in collaboration with Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), and the Global Cancer Consortium (GCC), hosted a day-long youth science programme recently at the PPC auditorium, Udupi, providing a platform for young minds to delve into the fascinating world of cancer research.
Dr Sreeramana Aithal, director of Poornaprajna Group of Institutions and Poornaprajna Institute of management, Poornaprajna College, Udupi, and Dr Sooryanarayana Varambally, director of translational oncologic pathology research at the University of Alabama, USA, were the guests of honour for the event. Both experts shared inspiring insights into their scientific journeys.
Dr Mahadev Rao, co-founder of the Global Cancer Consortium and a professor at the department of pharmacy practice, Manipal College of pharmaceutical sciences, MAHE provided an informative overview of the consortium’s mission and future endeavours.
The programme featured captivating talks by researchers from MAHE including Dr Rama Rao Damerla from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, Dr Manash Paul from Manipal School of life sciences, Prathvi V Shenoy from Manipal College of pharmaceutical sciences and online talks by international researchers Kayli Bolton from University of Kentucky, USA and Nayonika Mukherjee from University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA.
The programme commenced with a welcome address from Dr L Ramu, the principal of PPC. The chief guest, Dr B S Satish Rao, director of research (health science) at MAHE and director of Manipal School of life sciences at MAHE, delivered the keynote address. Dr Rao highlighted the significance of cutting-edge laboratories and interdisciplinary collaborations in advancing cancer research at MAHE with GCC at the global level.
The event was attended by faculties and undergraduate students from Poornaprajna College, Udupi.
