Nobody likes a hangover and people worldwide have made efforts to find the perfect “cure”.
Jamie Oliver swears by one particular hangover cure and dietitian Susie Burrell says a common pantry staple will do the trick.
But a doctor has weighed in on the conversation and shared her “science-driven” hangover sandwich that promises to beat that dusty post-party feeling.

GP Dr Zoe Williams, in partnership with UK bakery Warburtons, came up with the ultimate recipe that contains the necessary nutrients to replenish the essentials that are lost after a night of drinking.
Dr Williams explains in a video posted to her Instagram that alcohol dehydrates the body and lowers your blood sugar which can irritate your stomach lining. Eating something when you’re hungover, she explains, can help the body recover.
That’s where her hangover sandwich comes in.

“The Christmas party season is in full swing and my advice is drink sensibly but if you do overindulge, here is my hangover sandwich,” Dr Williams said.
Her sandwich recipe consists of bacon, avocado, eggs and, of course, bread topped with sauce of your choice.
The bacon, Dr Williams explains, “contains salts to replenish and proteins that help get rid of that hangover brain fog”.

Including avocado which is packed with vitamins, minerals and healthy fats can help provide sustained energy release throughout the day.
The “eggs are a great source of B12 which is likely to be depleted when you’re hungover,” Dr Williams explains.
They also include an amino acid called cysteine which helps to “break down acetaldehyde – a toxic byproduct of alcohol metabolism.”

Finally, Dr Williams recommends sandwiching it all together with a bread that is half white and half wholemeal as it is easy to eat but has the added goodness of fibre. Then topping it with a sauce of your choice for flavour.
Dr Williams also suggests serving it up with a “big glass of water and a cup of tea for hydration and antioxidants.
The GP acknowledges that it’s not the “most healthy sandwich you will ever eat” but says it’s most likely to get rid of your hangover.

Dr Williams hangover sandwich is similar to Jamie Oliver’s go-to hangover cure.
Speaking with the team on Nova 100’s Jase & Lauren radio show, who revealed they had been nursing hangovers after Melbourne Cup Day, Oliver shared what he believes to be the ultimate hangover cure.
“I think some sort of fat is really good,” he said, revealing he usually goes for some sort of egg scramble with chilli and cheese.
Oliver says it can make for a hearty, spicy meal great for a hangover, and can be whipped up very quickly.
