Hollywood lost several legendary actors in 2024, including Star Wars and The Lion King star James Earl Jones, who died on Sept. 9 at age 93.

Burt, the famous croc from “Crocodile Dundee” movie, dies in Australia

The crocodile who became famous after his appearance in the 1986 film “Crocodile Dundee” has died, the Australian reptile and aquarium attraction where he lived announced on social media.Burt, the iconic Saltwater crocodile that appeared alongside Paul Hogan and Linda Kozlowski in the hit movie, was believed to be more than 90 years old.Crocosaurus Cove in Darwin said in an Instagram post that Burt died peacefully over the weekend, “marking the end of an incredible era.””Burt’s life story is one of strength, resilience, and a personality as bold as the Top End itself,” the post continued. “Captured in the 1980s in the Reynolds River, Burt became one of the most recognised crocodiles in the world, appearing in Crocodile Dundee and helping to shape Australia’s image as a land of rugged natural beauty and awe-inspiring wildlife.”
The aquarium said Burt made his way to Crocosarus Cove in 2008 and went on to become “fierce and fascinating ambassador for crocodile education.”

“Known for his independent nature, Burt was a confirmed bachelor—an attitude he made clear during his earlier years at a crocodile farm,” they said. “His fiery temperament earned him the respect of his caretakers and visitors alike, as he embodied the raw and untamed spirit of the saltwater crocodile.”

In the film, Hogan’s character Mick Dundee swaps the Australian outback for the concrete jungle of New York after meeting an American reporter, played by Kozlowski. Burt is seen in a scene where Kozlowski’s character is attacked as she kneels next to a creek.Burt will be honored with a commemorative sign at Crocasourus Cove.

The focus of the scientists of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan is the assessment of seismic risks

A final seminar was held in Ashgabat within the framework of the project “Strengthening national capacities for seismic risk assessment, prevention and response to potential earthquakes.” The project is being implemented by the Institute of Seismology and Atmospheric Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program.

After discussing promising directions of work in the field of seismic risk assessment and reduction in Turkmenistan, the participants proposed conduct a research in earthquake-prone areas of the country and creating an international laboratory based on the new complex of the Turkmen State Architecture and Construction Institute.

Sergey Tyagunov, the UNDP international consultant on seismic risks, spoke at the seminar. He was at the helm of a comprehensive assessment of seismic vulnerability and risks, including conducting relevant training sessions within the framework of the project. As a result, the book “Seismic Risk” was worked out, which will become a valuable educational resource for relevant courses in seismology in the country.

The UNDP’s Permanent Representative in Turkmenistan, Narine Sahakyan, carried the hopes for productive cooperation with the Institute of Seismology and other national partners in the field of seismology and disaster risk reduction in Turkmenistan. It should be notice that the collaborative project “Strengthening national Seismic Risk Assessment, prevention and response to potential earthquakes” began in 2018.

For the first time in Turkmenistan, a comprehensive assessment of the seismic hazard of Ashgabat was carried out using modern methodology.
