Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has allowed Class 11 and Class 12 science stream students to change groups during their studies and also after Class 12 supplementary exams. This will provide relief to lakhs of students in the state as it was not allowed earlier.
Class 11 and 12 science stream students are offered three groups — A, B, and AB. In the A group, students take mathematics, physics, and chemistry. B group students take physics, chemistry, and biology, while AB group students take maths, physics, chemistry, and biology subjects.
Earlier, if a student opted for any of these groups in the Class 11 science stream, they were not allowed to change their group afterwards. The board now allows Class 11 students to change their group preferences even after they pass Class 11. So, if a student clears their exam with Group A, the student will be allowed to opt for Group A or Group AB in the Class 12 science stream.
The recent board order states that if a Class 12 science stream student clears the final exam with Group B, he or she will be allowed to opt for the mathematics subject in the supplementary exam. The board decided that a Class 11 student from the science stream will be allowed to opt for A, B, or AB Group in the Class 12 science stream regardless of which group they opted for in Class 11.
This decision will be implemented with immediate effect, so students taking the board exam that begins from Feb 27 will benefit from it.
