“Trump often says one thing and does another”: political science explained why it is not worth putting an end to the issue of Ukraine joining NATO

After the statements of the elected US President Donald Trump, one should not put an end to the discussion of Ukraine’s accession to NATO. It’s common for a Republican to make certain statements and then make something completely different. These words of his are what the Kremlin now wants to hear.
American political scientist Alexander Filippenko said this in an interview with OBOZ.UA. She regards Trump’s statements regarding Ukraine and NATO more as a game of a professional politician, distracting by saying one thing, but in reality doing something else.

“This is a distraction that Trump needs in order for his rival to relax. For Russia to relax, be distracted, rejoice, open champagne. But he does some other things. Therefore, I would perceive all this as such a big Trump game,” she noted Filipenko.
She noted the importance of who will be the secretary of state in the Trump administration, one of the most important figures in foreign policy. This is Mark Rubio, a man who does not owe his political career to Trump.
Back in 2014, Rubio called for those sanctions against Russia that we saw only in 2022.

“And his attitude towards Putin is quite definite. Therefore, with one hand, in one voice, at one press conference, Trump speaks about the feeling that Sigmund Freud is sitting next to him, and at the same time, people of completely different views are doing real work, real foreign policy work. Therefore, I would definitely not make a point raised both in the NATO issue and in other issues regarding Ukraine in general,” the political scientist emphasized.
Regarding possible negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation to end the war, Filippenko noted that Trump is now primarily talking with the Ukrainian side and doing this openly.

“And even if there are contacts with Russia, they are, firstly, hidden, and secondly, not so direct, but through several people… Therefore, yes, these are all statements that Putin wants to meet with him, dreams whether he loves him or not, and would rather meet him. And we see real contacts, this process is already underway,” she said.
As OBOZ.UA reported, US President-elect Donald Trump said that the possibility of Ukraine joining NATO has been “a big part of the problem for Russia for many, many years.” According to him, the war in Ukraine began because Joe Biden said that Ukraine could join NATO.
Trump said that the West understands that Ukraine cannot be in NATO, and he also adheres to this position.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky responded to these words of the Republican. He advised against making quick conclusions about United States policy.

Ocean data climate tech firm XOCEAN raises 115 million euros

By Simon JessopLONDON (Reuters) – Investors including Big Oil-backed Climate Investment and Morgan Stanley’s 1GT fund have invested 115 million euros ($119.20 million) in Irish geophysical data firm XOCEAN to help it expand its operations. The company uses uncrewed surface vehicles to help maintain offshore wind and other energy infrastructure, including checking for pipeline leaks, as well as developing carbon capture and storage projects and conducting civil hydrography.Unlike traditional providers of such services which rely on crewed vessels that cost thousands of dollars a day even when bad weather forces them into port, the firm’s technology allows clients to remotely control them and remain on-site for longer. The technology can also be delivered using what XOCEAN said was just 0.1% of the carbon emissions associated with manned vessels.Other backers in the growth equity round – which will help XOCEAN expand its fleet, develop new products and technology, and open new facilities – include Chicago-based venture investor S2G Ventures and CC Industries, owned by the Crown family.“Working with many of the world’s leading energy companies, XOCEAN has reimagined how the geophysical data central to unlocking the blue economy’s potential can be delivered,” said Francis O’Sullivan, managing director at S2G, which helped structure the deal. The funding of XOCEAN is the first through the growth equity strategy of Climate Investment, an independent investor launched by members of the Oil and Gas Climate Initiative, some of which, such as Shell and BP, are already clients of the firm.“Several customers cited XOCEAN as their surveying ‘platform of choice’,” said Climate Investment’s managing director for growth, Patrick Yip.Founded in Ireland in 2017, the company has more than 240 staff in offices in Ireland, Britain, the United States, Canada, Norway and Australia.($1 = 0.9648 euros)(Reporting by Simon Jessop; Editing by Tomasz Janowski)
