A little of this, a little of that, a test tube, a Bunsen burner, and Voilà!
Science Guys of San Diego has opened registration for its summer camps, which are designed to inspire kids to get creative and explore the world around them.
This will be its third year of hosting the week-long sessions for children in the area. Camps run from June 2 to Aug. 8 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and are available for kids aged 5–12.
Kathryn Beamon, founder of the San Diego location of the franchise, co-owns the business with her husband Chuck Beamon. However, families know them better as Professor Katalyst and Professor Chicken.
In addition to the summer camps, the company also offers afterschool clubs, workshops, parties, and shows at festivals or other summer camp programs. The couple said, “It’s great seeing the kids getting excited about learning and science with our ‘edutainment’ style programming. One of our favorite things is hearing parents tell us how excited their kids are to come to our events.”
The couple launched the franchise in the area in November 2022, and have grown to even have parents requesting them for parties as far out as LA. To keep up with the growth, the Beamons have added six more science guys to the team.
You’ll find Science Guys summer camps in Carlsbad, Coronado Island, North Park, Old Town, Rancho Santa Fe, Scripps Ranch, and University City.
“Science camps are a great alternative to the kids being glued to a screen while schools are out,” Beamons said. The camps combine fun and education with hands-on, engaging experiments, including many take-home activities. So, it allows the parents to be involved as well and see what their kids are learning. They also have themes for camps; Crazy Chemistry, CSI: Crazy Science Investigation, Extraordinary Engineering, Funky Physics, Saw It On YouTube, Space & Rocketry, STEAM, and Superhero Science.”
Parents who are interested in enrolling their children can do so on the company’s website. Registration is done per week with a cost of $450 per week. They do offer an early bird discount of 10% with code CAMPEARLY25.
