Bengaluru: Madlabs, the STEM-themed park that first began operations in 2022, marked its re-inauguration at Snow City on Sunday.
The facility, established by former research scientists from institutions such as IISc, IIIT, and National University of Singapore, says it aims to revolutionise how people engage with science and maths.
Former Isro chairman AS Kiran Kumar, speaking at the event, highlighted the role of outliers in advancing scientific understanding. “It’s only the madness which takes you to different places and heights,” Kumar noted, stressing how exceptional individuals can help elevate overall scientific literacy and capability in society. “Science and tech bring in so many new tools that people engage with. These tools also manipulate them without their knowledge. Hence it becomes vital for one to comprehend these aspects while navigating the world around them.”
Madlabs has reopened with an enhanced experience after entertaining more than one lakh visitors in its first three years. The reimagined venue features 13 specialised zones including Space Lab, Tech Mech Lab and Hydro Lab, offering interactive exhibits and hands-on activities for all ages.
“Our goal has been to ignite curiosity and spark a lifelong love for learning,” says co-founder Pankaj Jain. The revamped space aims to make science more accessible and enjoyable through state-of-the-art exhibits, puzzles, and interactive setups that encourage exploration and creative thinking.
Former IISc director Prof P Balaram advocated for hands-on learning experiences, particularly for children who are increasingly drawn to digital devices.
The initiative by Seed2Sapling Education represents an approach to STEM education combining entertainment with educational value in an experiential setting. It is, however, not free of cost.
