The Rumbek Health Science Institute on Friday awarded various certificates to 141 candidates after successful completion of their courses.
The graduands comprised 35 female laboratory technicians, clinical officers, midwives and nurses.
“I was a student of clinical medicine and public health. I have been studying for three years, and I appreciate God today because I passed all the obstacles to finish,” Tabitha Nyigang told Radio Tamazuj.
She appreciated all her family members and the tutors who supported her during her studies.
College Principal Deng Makur said the institute had graduated 319 in three batches, disclosing that batch one had 84, batch two were 94 and the latest with 141 candidates.
Makur said their obligation is to give health services to the community.
“I want to tell everybody here that we are not politicians but healthcare providers in the community,” he said.
“Our motto is to alleviate suffering and promote health and the wellbeing of the community,” he added.
The Director of Doctors with Africa, Dr Dante Carraro, said that the health systems cannot work well without a dedicated human resource.
He noted that South Sudan lacked enough qualified nurses, midwives, laboratory technicians and clinical officers.
“It is a great day as we celebrate the graduation of 141 health professionals,” he said.
He said as doctors without borders, they were committed to supporting the Rumbek School of Health Science.
Lakes State Cabinet Affairs Minister Stephen Mathiang Deng congratulated the graduands, noting they were now officially authorized to serve the community.
“You are authorized to take care of lives. So, congratulations to you and all the tutors of the Rumbek Health Science Institute for the great job,” he said.
The National Ministry of Health Director of Professional Development, Dr Achiir Mou Adup, said that one of the challenges is the employment of the graduates.
