Did you know Moorcroft Secondary School has expanded its science course offering from four to nine for grades 9 through 12? This impressive growth has been achieved under the leadership of Principal Nick Redden, who has assembled a top-notch teaching staff.
Guidance Counselor Heidi Fiechtner has also played a critical role by elevating the registration process, guiding students through graduation requirements, discussing career interests, and encouraging them to broaden their knowledge through a variety of classes.
The school’s science offerings have grown beyond chemistry, biology, advanced biology and physical science to include forensics, physics, environmental science, human physiology and junior high STEM. Integrated science may join the lineup next year.
These expanded options provide students with the opportunity to build skills, think critically and prepare for diverse careers, making them versatile graduates ready for a rapidly changing world.
Eighth-grade student Mark Beasley from Mrs. Doty’s JH Science class shared his excitement: “I love the experiments. We looked at cells under the microscope and saw mitosis, which is cells dividing. I think it’ll be really cool when the trout eggs in our tank hatch.”
Freshman Madysen Von Olnhausen in Ms. Durnell’s Physical Science class said, “We’re doing presentations on different types of energy. Mine is on nuclear energy. It’s interesting to learn how energy works and how it’s made.” She also praised Ms. Durnell for giving students every opportunity to succeed.
Junior Justus Mills, taking Environmental Science with Mrs. Milledge, remarked, “We learn about the water cycle, how humans impact nature, and more. One experiment simulated being animals hunting for food while facing obstacles like injuries or competition. It taught me how survival depends on many factors.”
Senior Traeh Badger, enrolled in Advanced Biology, said, “This class dives deep into biology concepts. I want to be a marine biologist, and the detailed lessons on animal cell structures have been invaluable. Mrs. Milledge has high expectations and I’ve learned so much.”
Junior Jace Burch from Physics shared his experiment experience: “We tested whether running or walking up stairs required more power. It turns out the work stays the same because your weight doesn’t change, but running uses more power. Ms. Durnell’s explanations make everything clear.”
These hands-on experiments and engaging classes are inspiring Moorcroft students to think critically, collaborate and solve real-world problems. As students analyze data and make informed decisions, they are building a strong foundation for success in any career path.
