CRANSTON, R.I. (WJAR) — A Cranston high school teacher was recognized as Rhode Island’s 2026 Computer Science Teacher of the Year on Wednesday.
Rhode Island education leaders visited Cranston High School West teacher Aimée Duarte in her classroom to recognize her work.
“I was very excited. I feel like I’ve worked really really hard and it was a nice honor to be recognized,” Duarte said. “When I first started here, the curriculum didn’t have a lot of computer science, and slowly as I was working with the students, they wanted to do animation, games… Slowly through the years, every year, I introduced a little more computer science.”
