Casper, Wyo. – Spectrum has announced a $15,000 Spectrum Digital Education grant to The Science Zone to support expanded access to digital education, coding and robotics programs for youth across central Wyoming.
The grant was formally recognized during the Family STEAM Night and Computer Science Night on Thursday, December 11. Families, local leaders, community partners, and representatives from Spectrum and The Science Zone gathered to explore the new technology and hands-on learning opportunities made possible through Spectrum’s support.
Distinguished guests in attendance included members of The Science Zone Board of Directors, along with Representative Steve Harshman, Representative JR Riggins, Representative Elissa Campbell, City Councilman Pat Sweeney and University of Wyoming Trustee Tom Walters.
The Spectrum grant helps equip The Science Zone’s computer science programs. These resources expand hands on STEAM experiences for students of all ages and support the organization’s mission to inspire curiosity, foster creativity and strengthen digital literacy skills for Wyoming youth.
“Connectivity directly strengthens educational opportunity, workforce readiness and long-term community vitality,” said Mike Mores, Senior Manager of Government Affairs at Spectrum. “Through our Spectrum Digital Education grant, we’re supporting The Science Zone’s efforts to broaden access to technology, spark early interest in computer science and help prepare young people for the futures they imagine.”
The Science Zone’s computer science offerings include classes in coding, robotics, digital art, drone engineering, and introductory programming languages such as Python. Demand for these programs continues to grow as Wyoming expands its focus on technology-based career pathways.
“This grant from Spectrum allows us to reach kids who may never have had the chance to explore coding or robotics,” said Amanda Blades, Education Director at The Science Zone. “We’re not just teaching technical skills— we’re building confidence, creativity and problem-solving abilities that will serve them throughout their lives.”
This grant is part of Spectrum’s broader commitment to digital equity through the Spectrum Digital Education program. In 2024, Spectrum is awarding a total of $1.3 million in grants to 66 nonprofit organizations across its 41-state service area. Since launching in 2017, the program has committed more than $10 million to improving digital literacy, workforce development, and educational access in underserved communities.
