The establishment of the Endowment Fund at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology was carried out with the aim of achieving long-term financial stability and supporting its strategic development.
The SMC Corporation, a well-known Japanese group in the field of industrial automation, made an initial donation of ₮2.5 billion (approximately $705,840) and confirmed its intention to continue cooperation.
An agreement on joint activities was signed on December 12, 2025, between the university rector Namnan Tömörpurev and SMC President Yoshida Takada regarding “Cooperation in Investment in the Endowment Fund.”
As part of this cooperation, the parties agreed to use the funds of the Endowment Fund for the following purposes:
- Support for internships for engineers from the Japanese University of Science and Technology;
- Participation in education, research, and innovations in accordance with the university’s development strategy;
- Long-term effective use of funds to support university infrastructure and other political initiatives.
This initiative to attract investments into the Endowment Fund opens new opportunities for sustainable financing of higher education in Mongolia, which is an important step towards strengthening the university’s position in research and innovation on the international stage without dependence on tuition fees.
The University of Science and Technology will continue its efforts to implement a long-term strategy for financial sustainability and development, ensuring the functionality of the Endowment Fund and engaging with alumni, businesses, and organizations to attract, preserve, and increase funds from donors and investors.
