RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday said science and dharma are not in conflict and, stressing both aim to arrive at the same fundamental truth, though they follow different paths to reach it.
Speaking at the Bharatiya Vigyan Sammelan, Bhagwat said dharma is often wrongly understood as religion. He explained that dharma should instead be seen as a universal principle that governs how creation functions.

“Dharma is not religion. It is the law by which creation runs. Whether one accepts it or not, no one can function outside it,” he said.
Bhagwat added that when this balance of dharma is disturbed, it leads to destruction.
He pointed out that science has historically maintained a distance from dharma, largely due to the belief that spiritual ideas have no place in scientific thinking. Bhagwat said this assumption was flawed and had led to an unnecessary divide between the two.
According to him, both science and spirituality are driven by the same curiosity — the search for truth.
The difference, he said, lies only in the method each uses. While science relies on observation, experimentation and logic, spirituality follows inner experience and introspection.
“There is no conflict between science and dharma or spirituality. The methodologies may differ, but the destination is the same—knowing the truth,” Bhagwat said.
