Pune: A 22-year-old student and a 45-year-old scientist drowned in a pond on the premises of the National Institute of Abiotic Stress Management in Malegaon, near Baramati, on Friday.The Malegaon police have identified the deceased student as Shreyas Hariprasad K Subramani of Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, and the scientist as Gopal Krishnan B, originally from Malegaon.Police said that Shreyas went to collect water samples from the pond as part of his practical examination when he fell into the water. Krishnan waded into the pond to try and save Shreyas, but he too slipped and fell. Police said they rescued both men and took them to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
