Deon Willis recorded his first career varsity triple-double for Newark Central with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals in its 54-49 win against Newark Data Science in the semifinal round of the Newark Public Schools Invitational.
Newark Central led 41-40 heading into the fourth quarter before Newark Data Science (3-5) opened the quarter by outscoring Newark Central 9-5.
Willis, a sophomore, scored seven of his 19 points in the final two minutes to help Newark Central (2-5) climb back from a 49-45 deficit.
Sekou Jabateh scored 12 points for Newark Central with four rebounds and three steals. Tamir Davis recorded a double-double with 10 rebounds, 10 steals, seven points and seven assists.
Zymere Coleman scored 14 points for Newark Data Science. Nasir Smith had 10 points.
