Srinagar, Dec 30: A Scientist–Sheep Breeders Meet was organised at KVK Pulwama on Tuesday by the Mountain Research Centre for Sheep & Goat (MRCS&G), SKUAST–Kashmir, in collaboration with KashVet Innovations Private Limited, a SKUAST–K start-up, and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Pulwama.
A statement said that the programme was attended by Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST–Kashmir, as the chief guest, while Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, Director Extension, SKUAST–Kashmir, and Dr Rafiq Ahmad Shah, Director, Sheep Husbandry Department, Kashmir, attended as guests of honour.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Ganai appreciated the initiative for strengthening the interface between scientists and sheep breeders and emphasised the need to further reinforce university–farmer linkages.
He stressed that timely scientific advisories on feeding, breeding, healthcare, vaccination and deworming are crucial for making sheep farming more productive and profitable. Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth highlighted various extension programmes being implemented by SKUAST–K for the benefit of sheep farmers, while Dr Rafiq Ahmad Shah elaborated on departmental schemes and congratulated the organisers for successfully conducting the event.
A major highlight of the programme was the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of KashVet Innovations Private Limited. Dr Parvaiz Ahmed Reshi, Senior Scientist and Head, MRCS&G, and founder of KashVet Innovations, shared the journey of the start-up and its social impact, stating that more than 21,000 sheep breeders across the Valley are connected with KashVet.
