Kilkenny students were to the fore at the Stripe Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition at the RDS in Dublin last week.

- Can You Create Eco-Friendly Paper Out of Waste Plant Materials? – Castlecomer Community School.
Leas Ceann Comhairle and Fianna Fáil TD for Carlow–Kilkenny John McGuinness attended the event on Thursday, where he expressed his admiration for the exceptional standard, creativity and ambition on display—particularly from students across Carlow and Kilkenny.

Speaking following his visit, Deputy McGuinness said he was amazed at the remarkable range and quality of projects on display and deeply impressed by the level of thought, work and imagination that went into every entry.
“I was delighted to be brought through the exhibition and to meet so many bright, enthusiastic young people, especially those representing schools from Carlow and Kilkenny,” he said. “The diversity of ideas, the scientific rigour and the social awareness shown by these students is truly inspiring. After seeing what I saw today, I leave knowing that the future is bright. Everyone involved is a winner.”
Now in its 61st year, the Stripe Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition has, since its foundation in 1965, served as a launchpad for Ireland’s brightest young minds. The exhibition is a national showcase of original student research, where thousands of proposals are submitted annually, with approximately 500 projects selected to be displayed over the four-day event in Dublin. Students present their work to panels of judges and the public, culminating in an awards ceremony where the overall Stripe Young Scientist & Technologist of the Year is announced.
Deputy McGuinness paid particular tribute to the students and teachers from Carlow and Kilkenny. He commended the students, their families and their teachers for their dedication and commitment.
“These projects reflect not only academic excellence, but a genuine desire to solve real-world problems,” he said. “I congratulate every student who took part and thank the teachers and parents who continue to nurture and encourage this extraordinary talent.”
