MacGregor Elementary School is gearing up for a full slate of activities this winter, promising plenty of learning and community engagement for its roughly 250 students. Principal Brian Marriott explains that the school strives to provide students with a range of educational and cultural opportunities.
School events highlight learning and celebration
Marriott notes upcoming events are already drawing excitement among students and teachers.
“We are hosting the Pine Creek Schools Science Fair on January 27,” he says.
“We invite schools from across the division to come down and take part,” Marriott adds, noting that grade five to eight students from schools including Austin will participate.
Marriott explains that once the science fair wraps up, students and staff will shift their focus to “I Love to Read Month” in February, a celebration of literacy and writing that the school has embraced in past years with enthusiasm.
Fostering student growth beyond the classroom
Marriott says MacGregor Elementary prides itself on offering a variety of opportunities that extend beyond standard classroom lessons.
“One of our school goals is to provide lots of opportunities for students,” he says.
“We take students on outdoor education trips, offer academic supports, enrichment games, sporting events, and celebrate the arts,” Marriott continues.
These experiences, he explains, aim to give students exposure to cultural and educational experiences across the province.
Marriott adds that the school’s positive culture and the collaborative spirit among staff, students, and families are central to what makes MacGregor Elementary a place where students thrive.
“It is a really good school with a positive culture, and everybody works hard to do their best for our kids and families,” he says.

Students enjoy school life
When asked about what students enjoy most, Marriott says there are many favourites.
“The community-wide art gallery is really popular,” he says.
He also notes that middle years students are excited about sports, particularly with basketball season approaching. Overall, he says students enjoy coming to school, being with friends, and interacting with the dedicated staff.
