WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue Global’s fire science programs have been reaccredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC). The reaccreditation is valid through Oct. 29, 2030.
The programs receiving reaccreditation, which are in Purdue Global’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, are:
• Associate of Applied Science in Fire Science
• Bachelor of Science in Fire Science
• Bachelor of Science in Fire Science and Emergency Management
• Master of Science in Homeland Security and Emergency Management
IFSAC accreditation is granted after an integral self-study is conducted by the entity or institution seeking accreditation, followed by an on-site review by a panel consisting of peer representatives from other member entities or institutions.
Richard Niebusch, department chair for public safety and aviation programs, said this reaccreditation serves as an acknowledgement of both the school’s curriculum and programmatic quality, which observes the Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education model.
“The reaccreditation demonstrates that Purdue Global continues to provide solid educational delivery, exceptional student support, and has strong programmatic assets that support the degree programs included in the reaccreditation,” Niebusch said.
Additionally, students receive instructional, programmatic and institutional support throughout their educational endeavors.
Purdue Global’s fire science program features a dozen active and former fire chiefs, assistant chiefs, and battalion chiefs who provide their expertise and experience in the classroom to help prepare learners for real-world scenarios.
The IFSAC commended Purdue Global’s administrators, faculty and staff on the time, work and effort put forth to participate in this process and their desire to provide quality programs for those pursuing fire-related careers.
Purdue Global is one of 28 college programs, and the only school in Indiana, that received accreditation, according to the IFSAC.
